I thought the Polish team at CD Projekt Red had reached a level hard to surpass with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Then, a few years later, they come out with Cyberpunk 2077. And despite everything you’ve read online, it’s stunning.
Hype, Bugs and Masterpiece
Unfortunately they paid dearly for the hype built up over 8 years of waiting, also because of the extremely high bar set by The Witcher 3. The day-one bugs, which we now see in all monumental productions worth hundreds of millions of dollars, became for many a reason for fierce criticism of this title. But don’t let that put you off: it’s stunning. And the remaining bugs will be fixed with upcoming patches.
Cyberpunk 2077 excels in everything — and I’m not just talking about gameplay. I mean the plot, the characters and the story, which is truly a great cyberpunk novel. Raw, rough, visceral, uncensored.
Details That Make the Difference
The Italian dubbing is stunning and deserves a separate mention. Let’s genuinely hope it becomes a standard on many other titles and at this level of quality.
If you were thinking of upgrading your graphics card, now is the time. We’re truly at the next level of gaming: Ray Tracing used without restraint, virtually everywhere. Sure, on PC you could disable it and reduce all of CD Projekt Red’s work to the look of a five-year-old title. But talking about doing that… do you really want to?
I’ve finished it twice. And I still have so much to explore in that enormous, tentacled, desperate and poignant metropolis called Night City.
Portraits from Night City
The photo mode is also wonderful for capturing images like these. I’ll leave you with a selection of portraits collected while playing up to today.
