The Ideal Case for the Dream Retro Console…

Anyone who’s followed the previous posts on this blog knows exactly what we’re talking about: the dream retro console is the perfect retrogaming console at a reasonable price. And it wouldn’t be complete without a case to match.

Aesthetics Matter Too

We’d already chosen a standard case recommended by Raspberry — functional and understated. But that little black box under the television, however marvellous technologically, didn’t give me that 1980s feeling that only the glorious machines of the past could provide.

Anyone who was a gamer in the 1980s or ’90s had some kind of console under their TV: Atari, NES, Mega Drive, Super NES… Whatever it was, for us kids they were boxes of wonder capable of giving us hours and hours of fun with friends.

In my case, I went through years with my trusty Atari 2600 even though many friends had far more advanced machines. But the choice this time went elsewhere: the Nintendo Entertainment System, released in Japan in July 1983 and arriving in Italy in November 1987. The NES ran wonderful games like Super Mario 3, which sold a staggering 18 million copies.

The NesPi Case by Retroflag

On Amazon we found a case inspired by this little gem of the past, made specifically for the Raspberry Pi 3: the NesPi Case by Retroflag.

Beyond the aesthetic factor, it adds some interesting hardware features:

  • Power and Reset buttons that connect internally to the Raspberry
  • Space for an internal fan inside the case
  • HDMI port positioned on the rear of the console, no side cables

The Amazon order has been placed… we’ll wait to have it in hand for another post. 😊
